Will my hair straighten nicely with a home relaxer? Any recommendations?

I’ve been wanting to have straight hair for a LONG time (i’m a guy, i know it’s weird) but i have fairly curly hair, also very thick. I just had some friends straighten my hair (or try to) with a straightening iron, with some luck, albeit, with very poofy results and some curls that would just not go away. I’ve read some Reviews and a few say that home relaxers are a surefire way to straighten hair. I’ve got a pic of me here with hair about the same length as it is now included here. My question is, will it straighten? I’m not talking DEAD straight, but at least not at all noticably curly. Also, any suggestions on what product to get and where? thanks

Well, certainly, you can straighten your hair at home with one of those kits. They do work… for what they are. But professionals know what is going on, and how to control the action. If this is the first time for you, you certainly don’t know what to watch for, or how to control the amount of curl to remove. Of course, any chemical treatment on the hair will damage it. How much depends on the person doing it. You are in total control, so you cannot blame anything on the product. Anything is only as good as the person doing it.

The best advice is still to seek out the services of a qualified professional. They have the training, the skill, and most important, the experience. They also have the correct products for your kind of hair.

I would also suggest a better cut. A good hairstylist knows how to cut the hair to make good use of whatever characteristics it has… and know how to look after it for best results. You should have a consultation with one of them, and discuss everything with them. Tell them what you would like, and they can tell you if it’s possible, or whether there is something else that would work a lot better. You deserve to investigate all possibilities before making a decision.
